IDC: New alliance and channel relationships will emerge

Framingham, MA — January 3, 2005 — According to the analyst firm IDC, the newly emerging dynamic information technology (IT) model will change the way in which IT vendors view, manage and support all types of alliance and channel partners. As the overall market begins to shift toward an integrated solution supply chain, partner alignment across multiple activities, industries and markets will become essential.

"As the IT environment enters its next phase of development in dynamic IT, closer alignment of vendor alliances and partnerships will be required to create a tightly functioning ecosystem," said Cushing Anderson, research director for IDC's software business strategies group. "A clear result of this activity is that vendor and partner positions in the ecosystem will become more fluid, changing as the situation demands."

Each member of a successful partner ecosystem contributes meaningfully to solve a customer issue. In the dynamic IT model, successful partner ecosystems will be formed around 12 dynamic IT value propositions. IDC believes that all IT vendors will be forced to become more partner-centric and partner-savvy. Those vendors that neglect to address the shift required to provide customers with a dynamic IT approach will be at a disadvantage as the market moves ahead.

Dynamic IT refers to an emerging framework that untangles the isolated, under-leveraged infrastructure, data and applications to create a set of services to support business planning and execution. It also encompasses an IT infrastructure that can be fully leveraged yet cost-effectively managed and provisioned. IDC believes that dynamic IT will depend on a new partner ecosystem paradigm that will demand greater interoperability and flexibility between its participants.

IDC's recently released Dynamic IT: Impact on Partnerships assesses the impact of dynamic IT on vendor's business partner relationships through an exploration of the key drivers and dominant priorities that face both constituents as the reality of this new IT framework develops.
