Waterloo, Ontario March 16, 2005 Third-party logistics provider Exel has tapped Descartes Systems Group for a solution to manage its contracts for ocean-going cargo, enabling the 3PL to provide shipping quotes to its customers more quickly.

Exel is using Descartes' Ocean Contract Management solution to store, amend, update, search, retrieve, quote, calculate and manage shipping rates for ocean-going cargo. Exel has used the solution to store all its buy rates with ocean carriers, both in regulated and non-regulated trade-lanes, as well as to store Exel's sell rates, including new services arrangements with non-vessel operating common carriers (NVOCCs).

Descartes said that the Ocean Contract Management solution provides timely and precise shipping rate information to Exel, enabling the 3PL to more quickly quote shipping rates to their customers and thereby close business more effectively.

Exel has deployed Ocean Contract Management solution across its global enterprise with users in Asia, Europe and the Americas. "Descartes' Ocean Contract Management solution provides us with quality data and technology through which we are able to offer our customers value-added services that help set Exel apart from the competition," said Mike Meierkort, vice president for sea freight at Exel.
