Contact lens manufacturer deploying solution for voice-directed picking operations

Princeton, NJ — December 1, 2003 — Specialty soft contact lens company CooperVision, a division of The Cooper Companies, has selected a solution from Voxware for voice-directed picking operations in its Rochester, N.Y. distribution center.

CooperVision is one of the world's largest contact lens manufacturers, and for the past several years it has been the fastest-growing company in its field. The company is headquartered in Lake Forest, Calif., and has manufacturing facilities in Hamble, England; Rochester, N.Y.; Huntington Beach, Calif.; Helsinki, Finland; and Norfolk, Va.

"Our dedication to excellence is well known, and we already feel we have the highest levels of on-time order fulfillment in the industry," said Joseph Stannard, CooperVision's vice president of logistics. "To further improve our performance and support our rapid growth — not only in the United States but also in key international markets — we are implementing innovative logistics technology from providers who can support our global operations."

Stannard said that the company had conducted a rigorous analysis of alternative suppliers, followed by a live pilot program with Voxware's VoiceLogistics in the company's Rochester facility. Voxware is a supplier of voice-based solutions for the logistics workforce.

"Very quickly, we saw productivity rates 150 percent greater than our targets, with near-perfect accuracy levels," Stannard said. "User acceptance was phenomenal, so we think performance will get even better with more practice."

"CooperVision has ambitious, well-planned goals for their distribution centers, and the pilot program proved how strongly VoiceLogistics performs, even when expectations are high," said Dr. Bathsheba Malsheen, CEO of Voxware. "We are very pleased to be part of CooperVision's strategic vision for warehousing excellence."
