Westlake Village, CA March 20, 2001 Need2Buy announced today the latest version of its online marketplace for the electronics components industry, introducing new features to streamline the processes of component research, selection, procurement and distribution.
The new marketplace also offers enhancements for managing bills of materials (BOMs) and a completely redesigned user interface.
Need2Buy says its SuperCatalog feature will enable buyers to upload BOMs and check component availability among the current inventories of the various franchised distributors that are participating in this service.
"The SuperCatalog gives us the ability to easily display our current stock to buyers and enables them to take advantage of the convenience of online sourcing in a way that complements their current process," said Clyde Brewer, director of strategic marketing at Bell Microproducts. "It allows us to retain control of our inventory, our sales process and our customer relationships 9 all key factors in our decision to post our inventory with Need2Buy."
Mike Nichols, vice president of sales for Reptron Electronics, said: "By listing our inventory with Need2Buy, we expand our product visibility across a broader range of potential buyers and are able to respond to our customers more efficiently. At the same time, SuperCatalog provides us with a cost-effective way to capture smaller orders that ordinarily would require significant time and effort to process."
The new Part Research Center, based on i2 Technologies' VIP database, gives registered users free access to an extensive database of technical information for electronic components. In addition, Need2Buy now provides each user with a personalized "My Home" page for managing approved supplier lists, tracking buying and selling activities, and monitoring the ongoing availability of key components.
"Need2Buy's expanded solution reflects our focus on streamlining key processes across the entire product lifecycle, from design to end-of-life," said Maury Friedman, Need2Buy's chairman and CEO. "Our new services and improved BOM-management tools promise to save users considerable time and effort in their daily activities, and are the result of an extensive development process and research with buyers and suppliers. The new capabilities we've added will help improve supply-chain efficiency, without requiring users to change the way they do business or coming between suppliers and their customers."
