Covisint takes portal services industry-wide

Detroit September 12, 2001 Covisint yesterday announced its commitment to establish common portal services for the global automotive industry. The Covisint Industry Portal initiative will allow industry participants to access original equipment manufacturer (OEM) applications, supplier applications and/or Covisint applications via one common framework, built on specifications developed with input from Covisint supplier and OEM customers. The portal also will serve as the framework for OEM-to-supplier and supplier-to-supplier communications.

The Covisint Industry Portal includes an industry-wide standard for Web-based applications, providing users with a common interface for navigating and conducting business across automotive OEM and trading partner system; a single identity for automotive industry professionals, providing for a simplified user experience backed by high-integrity, lower-cost security; and a consolidated automotive directory supporting intelligent applications, as well as data exchange and synchronization across the entire supply chain.

"The Covisint Industry Portal is the foundation for the next generation of B2B infrastructure and is a direct response to key customer requests," said Kevin English, chairman, CEO and president, Covisint. "The demand for these services has been overwhelming. Working closely with representatives from leading companies, we are expecting a rapid adoption worldwide across the industry."

Pilots are expected to begin at the end of 2001 with production releases and the subsequent roll-out to thousands of individual companies commencing in early 2002.  In addition, based on emerging industry standards for interoperability, third-party data providers can also be integrated into the solution in the future.
