Siemens Division Tackles Integration

To use TIBCO integration solution to help in shift toward Web-based business infrastructure

Palo Alto, CA July 22, 2002 Siemens Nederland, a subsidiary of Siemens AG, is using an integration solution from TIBCO to create an automated and integrated business environment in a move to link the company's extensive enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and processes.

Siemens Netherlands is conducting a major upgrade to its ERP system designed to shift the company to a more Internet-centric business strategy and to introduce significant efficiencies across the organization. With an integrated environment, the company should be able to reduce its management costs, improve the quality of its operations and reduce development time for all corporate interfaces.

Using TIBCO's ActiveEnterprise suite of products, Siemens Netherlands will integrate its current and legacy data, systems and processes through a migration to an SAP R3 environment, standardizing interfaces and providing a common ground for its business-critical applications. TIBCO provides the integration platform for this change, ensuring that all of Siemens' systems are fully interoperable with R3. TIBCO was selected after an initial pilot project that demonstrated after only four days that it could address Siemens Netherlands' specific needs.

TIBCO said ActiveEnterprise will provide seamless integration within a common environment, thereby empowering Siemens to manage its business processes such as finance and supply chain relationships more easily and effectively. Siemens is looking to realize significant total cost of ownership (TCO) savings by standardizing all operations on a common platform. This upgrade is part of Siemens' overall corporate strategy as it transforms itself into a Web-based organization.

"Managing multiple systems across a single organization is both labor intensive and a potential drain on valuable resources, which no company can afford," said Henk Bos, chief information officer for Siemens Netherlands. "Using an integration architecture such as those contained in the TIBCO ActiveEnterprise product suite to knit together a diverse range of legacy systems will allow us to recognize cost reductions, greater flexibility and faster time to market. We can also be sure that we are not losing any of the valuable information that is essential to our business."
