Wholesale grocer selects Elogex for transportation and distribution solution

Charlotte, N.C. August 21, 2002 Elogex Inc., a provider of collaborative logistics solutions, announced that Bozzuto's, a New England-based wholesale grocer, has selected its transportation logistics platform. The Elogex Network will provide Bozzuto's with the technology and processes to manage Bozzuto's transportation activities across its network of suppliers, customers and carriers.

"For the first time, we will have a legitimate handle on our inbound freight opportunities using Elogex," Jay McDowell, vice president of distribution services for Bozzuto's said. "We are looking forward to working with other Elogex clients in our area to expand our network of backhaul potential."

Elogex said its platform streamlines the entire logistics lifecycle through a single shared application. Bozzuto's facilities, fleet, third party carriers, customers and suppliers will manage shipments, monitor inventory in transit, establish and manage carrier contracts, track performance and compliance and work within the Elogex Network to develop customer pick-up and backhaul programs.

"We chose Elogex for two main reasons: the stability of the company and the scope of its product," Bozzuto's vice president of transportation Joe Callahan said. "Elogex has well-established clients and expertise in the grocery market, and they are the only company that offers a system to manage our complex dock scheduling."

By implementing the Elogex Network, Callahan estimated that Bozzuto's is going to grow from handling a minimal amount of their inbound freight scheduling to managing 35 percent after one year and 50 percent after the first two years. By gaining control of its inbound freight, Bozzuto's said it is going to have the ability to better manage its distribution operations, improve customer service and increase the revenue generation of its private fleet.

Bozzuto's serves clients throughout the Northeast with a 115-unit fleet domiciled at its one million-square-foot distribution facility in Cheshire, Conn. In addition to managing facility operations, the Elogex Network will automate payment of the 12,000 freight bills that Bozzuto's processes annually. The system will verify that all payments accurately reflect freight contract terms and will eliminate the inconvenience of paper freight bills.

Bozzuto's will join other Elogex grocery clients such as Kroger, Hannaford, Winn-Dixie, ES3, C&S Wholesale and Shaw's Supermarkets that have chosen its network-based application to streamline inbound and outbound logistics.
