Deploys spend data management solution from Zycus to synchronize internal master database, vendor catalogs

Rutherford, NJ — March 9, 2004 — ABB Offshore Systems deployed a master data rationalization solution from Zycus to support the company's initiatives in expanding efficiencies of its ongoing demand and supply chain initiative.

Norwegian ABB Offshore Systems is a subsidiary of Swiss concern ABB Ltd., with more than 5,000 employees and a turnover of $28.5 billion in 2002. The company serves the international oil and gas industry.

Using master data rationalization solution in Zycus' Spend Data Management (SDM) software, ABB now has the facility to cross-reference between its internal master database and vendor catalogs, helping the company to automate requisition and invoicing processes.

"Incoherence between spend data in the two disparate databases was restricting information flow across the supply chain processes," said Jan Sjostrom, senior advisor for supply chain at the ABB unit. "We needed an automated solution that would granularly classify the records, extract attribute information and help us identify the possible overlap between our internal system records and vendor catalogs by means of attribute detail comparison."

Sjostrom added that Zycus' SDM software not only provided the company with a solution for cross referencing based on attribute information, the application also helped us cut down on duplicates.

"Focusing on spend data management has already resulted in promising benefits to ABB Offshore Systems," said Sandip Maiti, director of marketing at Zycus. "Our product solution at ABB Offshore Systems stands testimony to the fact that spend data management is imperative to all larger procurement and supply management initiatives."
