Aspen Acquisition

e-Chemicals becomes part of AspenTech

CAMBRIDGE, MA VENTUREWIRE e-Chemicals customers will be re-routed today, and sent to the AspenTech homepage. Aspen, a supplier of integrated software and services for process manufacturers, announced that it acquired the chemicals Internet-based exchange firm. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The majority of e-Chemicals employees had previously resigned or been laid off before the acquisition. The e-Chemicals founder, Lorne Darnell, however will take a management position with the company, while the 16 other remaining employees, mainly technical developers, will also join AspenTech.

As a result of the deal, AspenTech will gain the technology developed by e-Chemicals for their online sales and procurement and embed it into their Aspen Marketplace service. Concerned e-Chemicals' customers will find the following comforting message on the AspenTech site: As an e-Chemicals customer, the acquisition will not affect the current e-Chemicals marketplace services or the way you log in and conduct business through the site. The only change is that the site has been renamed and the logos and graphics have been changed.
