Logistics.com Upgrades TMS Solution

Latest version of transportation management system adds collaborative dock door scheduling

Burlington, MA August 30, 2002 Logistics.com, the provider of logistics planning and execution solutions for shippers and carriers, this week launched the latest version of its Web-native, real-time transportation management system (TMS).

Logistics.com said that its OptiManage 7.3 solution provides shippers with greater return on investment and better visibility and control over day-to-day supply chain execution.

The provider also announced that three companies PPG Industries, Klockner Pentaplast and Wise Alloys are currently implementing the new solution.

"We're delighted to be on track to roll out OptiManage 7.3 to all 35 of our plants in only eight weeks," said James Carr, manager of corporate transportation at PPG Industries. "OptiManage 7.3 allows a new level of customization at all levels, from company-wide parameters to user-specific preferences. For example, we can improve our carrier selection process by tailoring the system's automated selection criteria to the needs of individual plants, reducing the need for expensive manual intervention. OptiManage also improves each user's productivity by allowing them to customize their work screens to fit their individual workflows."

New features in OptiManage 7.3 include collaborative dock door scheduling, which provides management and visibility of dock schedules for both shippers and carriers. The online tool is intended to streamline the time-intensive process of creating feasible dock door appointments, considering actual dock capacities.

New purchase order management permit customers to enter purchase orders directly into OptiManage, allowing the creation of shipments from the purchase order line items and enhanced inventory visibility and tracking.

Ordered versus shipped inventory is tracked at the SKU level, providing visibility into inventory in transit. Through permissions, shippers can allow vendors and customers to view and create purchase orders online.

Additional improvements to OptiManage 7.3 include more robust continuous move functionality and enhanced rate lookup.

The system can be delivered as traditional licensed software or through the Web.
