Warehouse hires increased in April as e-commerce continues to grow. However, the freight-transportation sector slowed, The Wall Street Journal reports.
The Journal reports that warehouse and storage companies added over 5,000 jobs last month, making it the fourth straight month of growth. The sector reportedly added roughly 70,000 jobs over the last month. Gains come as e-commerce rapidly grows, forcing more companies to open fulfillment centers near major cities to speed up delivery to customers.
Meanwhile, the sector is expected to only grow in the second quarter as Amazon prepares to make one-day free shipping a standard for its Prime members. Still, there are not enough workers to fill the positions, leaving several companies struggling to keep up with the forces of Amazon and other leading companies.
