Global reach, support cited as reasons for contract extension with Descartes
Waterloo, Ontario November 11, 2005 Air Canada Cargo, a provider of direct cargo services, said it has extended its contract for The Descartes Systems Group Inc.'s Global Logistics Network (GLN) services.
Descartes offers on-demand delivery management solutions and services for transportation, logistics, manufacturing, retail and distribution enterprises.
Air Canada Cargo is using the GLN as a communications platform and messaging service to electronically exchange logistics information with trading partners, including shipment status messages, air waybills, house bills and customs releases.
Using a single connection to the GLN, Air Canada Cargo said it can reach the majority of the freight forwarders it serves, helping it conduct logistics business more efficiently and effectively while complying with stringent international air freight security regulations.
"Descartes provides a communication interface for customs releases and logistics messaging that has been assisting our day-to-day operations since 1993," commented Lisette Schweiger, manager of Technology Solutions and E-Commerce for Air Canada Cargo. "The global reach of Descartes' GLN and its high quality services and support, combined with the domain expertise of its staff, made the decision to extend our contract an easy one. We look forward to continuing our successful business relationship with Descartes."
Edward Ryan, Descartes' general manager, Global Logistics Network, said, "Descartes is committed to providing innovative solutions and superior service to maintain long-term relationships with our customers like Air Canada Cargo. We welcome the opportunity to continue to serve our long-standing customer."
