Lunchmeats producer looks to boost overall demand management using Logility solutions

Atlanta — November 10, 2004 — Lunchmeats company Land O' Frost has signed up to use supply chain solutions from Logility as part of an initiative to enable more efficient manufacturing planning, better scheduling and improvements in overall demand management.

Based in Searcy, Ark., Land O' Frost is a family-owned manufacturer of lunchmeats and provider of ingredients to restaurants and other food processing companies. The company, which produces the fifth largest selling brand of lunchmeats in the United States, sells its products through grocery stores and other retail channels, and it also offers its manufacturing customers the ability to customize formulations, product form and pack form.

With production facilities in Searcy and in Lansing, Ill., Land O' Frost has a private fleet that distributes products throughout North America. A third plant, scheduled to open in 2005, drove the decision to buy supply chain management software. The meats company purchased Logility's Voyager Manufacturing Planning, which it will use to improve the planning and scheduling process across its existing and planned production facilities.

The company also purchased Logility Voyager Demand Planning, which calculates the forecast of standard items and then communicates the forecast to Logility's Voyager Inventory Planning and Replenishment Planning solutions, which balance the trade off between inventory investment and desired customer service levels to dynamically set time-phased inventory targets based on specific customer, safety stock and order quantity rules.

"Land O' Frost is focused on delivering superior service and selection to our customers," said John Horton, vice president of customer services for Land O' Frost. "Offering product customization provides customers a value-added service that increases the complexity of our business and makes manually planning and scheduling plants more challenging."

Horton said that the company selected Logility's Voyager Solutions because the products have a track record for delivering rapid results for food manufacturers, and because the company can use one solution to help it level load production across its supply chain, optimize inventory investments, improve its forecasting process and manage promotional lifts.

"We look forward to helping Land O' Frost build a strong and flexible supply chain infrastructure that is capable of supporting its long-term business strategy by allowing the company to capitalize on growth opportunities and service improvements," said Mike Edenfield, president and CEO of Logility.

Land O' Frost will run its Logility Voyager Solutions on IBM eServer iSeries equipment.
