Providers integrate advanced shipping notification solution for North American automotive suppliers, OEMs
El Segundo, CA — December 3, 2004 — Enterprise resource planning (ERP) player Glovia International has formed a partnership, in the form of a reseller agreement, with Bar Code Solutions to offer greater collaboration capabilities for North American automotive suppliers and major auto OEMs.
A subsidiary of Fujitsu, Glovia provides extended enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions for engineer-to-order and high volume manufacturers. Bar Code Solutions specializes in the integration of electronic data interchange (EDI) and barcode applications for suppliers to the North American automotive and transportation industries.
The two companies' integrated solution is designed to help suppliers adhere to the stringent functionality and transaction requirements mandated by North American automotive OEMs.
Bar Code Solutions' Automated Release Management System (BCS-ARMS) solution, developed in the late 1980s in conjunction with Honda, will be integrated with Glovia's extended ERP solution, glovia.com, to enable North American automotive tier-one trading partners to increase the speed and accuracy of communication with OEMs.
"Having Glovia as our ERP/MRP partner enables us to further penetrate the automotive industry to provide North American suppliers a streamlined method of managing EDI communications with OEMs," said Wayne Metcalfe, president and CEO of Bar Code Solutions. "By tightly integrating BCS-ARMS with glovia.com, automotive suppliers can now not only manage their MRP, accounting, purchasing, manufacturing and planning needs but also adhere to North American automotive specifications and supplier community requirements."
The BCS-ARMS solution automatically creates the shipping requirements from EDI documents, notifies suppliers of changes to their inbound shipping requirements and helps reduce errors by validating part numbers, supplier identifications, engineering levels, and shipping destinations, according to Bar Code Solutions. The integration with glovia.com will include lot and serial control and traceability — from the container, to finished products in the container, to major components in the products. The detailed information can be used to improve quality and provide accountability for warranty recalls, according to the solution providers.
"As the automotive industry becomes increasingly competitive, OEMs continually put more pressure on their suppliers to reduce costs and to become more responsive," said Yuji Nakasu, president and CEO of Glovia International. "This partnership enables Glovia to provide an integrated solution to help North American automotive suppliers improve communications with OEMs. The solution provides the ability for suppliers to streamline operations by accessing the information required to control processes, coordinate enterprise-wide activities, monitor quality, and measure improvements as effectively as possible to be successful in today's lean automotive operating environment."
