Company to use Proficiency solution to accelerate migration to new computer-aided design system
Marlborough, MA — December 13, 2004 — The Night Vision Division of ITT Industries has selected a collaboration solution from Proficiency in a bid to accelerate its migration from a legacy computer-aided design (CAD) system to Pro/ENGINEER.
ITT Night Vision supplies night vision devices to the U.S. military and law enforcement operations, as well as for recreational, scientific and surveillance applications. The division is set to use Proficiency's Collaboration Gateway for feature-based CAD data exchange.
Proficiency said that Collaboration Gateway is a Web-based, feature-level CAD interoperability software application that facilitates the sharing of product design information, including features, history, constraints, assembly structure, dimensions and metadata, throughout the extended product development process.
"After looking at all of the feature-based exchange offerings available today, we selected Proficiency's Collaboration Gateway because fully-automated exchange will be far more efficient over manual or computer-aided techniques," said Jim Lewey, manager of tool and machine design for ITT Night Vision.
The solution will enable Night Vision to migrate to its preferred CAD system while reusing models designed in its previous CAD system, according to Proficiency. Specifically, ITT will use the solution to exchange feature-based CAD models between Dassault Systemes' CATIA v4 and CATIA v5, PTC's Pro/ENGINEER and Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire, and UGS' Unigraphics NX and I-deas NX Series.
"This will enable us to migrate our active data and to meet timelines for ongoing and new Pro/ENGINEER-based projects," Lewey said. "Furthermore, our proprietary data will remain secure because we don't have to send it outside to have it translated."
During the evaluation process, ITT Night Vision estimated that Proficiency's Collaboration Gateway would save the company more than six man-years of effort to migrate approximately 15,000 models to Pro/ENGINEER.
