Company upgrades transportation management system to simplify cross-docking and manage 600,000+ shipments per year
Montreal — December 3, 2003 — Xerox Canada has signed up solution provider TECSYS to implement a transportation management system (TMS) that will provide the Xerox division with the technological capability and strategic processes to meet the complex requirements for its 600,000-plus annual shipments.
Recently Xerox assessed its integrated supply chain processes, outlined its vision and direction for the future and determined its current TMS needed to be replaced to meet corporate standards.
The company currently sends out thousands of shipments each day from its Canadian inventory. To handle these shipments, Xerox Canada is aiming to improve its cross-docking abilities in order to consolidate, build and process nearly 600 boxes (30 to 35 skids) each day.
The challenge Xerox Canada faces comes from the two-hour window for turnaround, a requirement of same-day shipping carriers. The company believes that TECSYS' EliteSeries Enterprise TMS will better enable the company to meet that delivery goal.
"EliteSeries TMS lets us immediately reduce the number of steps and the time it takes to ship our products," said Sergio Grespan, manager for information technology at Xerox Canada. "TECSYS' EliteSeries TMS solution provides us with two immediate benefits: it allows us to handle cross-docking shipments more quickly and efficiently, and it gives us the technology to tie into the rest of our systems' architecture."
Xerox will implement TECSYS' TMS at locations in Mississauga, Ontario (125,000 sq. ft.), and Calgary, Alberta (10,000 sq. ft.). The main server will reside at the company's head office in North York, Ontario. The application will be running on an IBM xSeries server and will allow Xerox Canada to manage all rates and provide IT support from one location, according to TECSYS.
The solution is scheduled to go live this month.
