Uber has delivered several tests of autonomous vehicles, most recently one taking place in Arizona. This will lead to a feathering in of self-driving vehicles into their mix. Uber’s goal is to eventually give a greater portion of rides to their autonomous vehicles.
Uber’s CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi, believes that certain factors will play part in getting a driver, such as weather and mapping of the city. However, 5 percent of the time they’ll aim to send an autonomous vehicle to their customer.
The percentage will likely continue to rise as the company’s algorithms determine what it takes to drive in a real world situation.
