SAN FRANCISCO, CA BUSINESS WIRE January 3, 2001 ChemConnect, host of an online trading marketplace for chemicals and plastics, announced the appointment of Brian Shelby to the post of Vice President, Asia. Shelby will be based in Singapore and will be responsible for leading ChemConnect's efforts to expand and support its Asia operations. The importance of Shelby's newly acquired position is evidenced by the fact that Asia represents twenty-seven percent of ChemConnect's membership base for their e-marketplace, World Chemical Exchange.
Shelby has over ten years of experience in the chemical industry focusing on managing business development, purchasing, and logistics, primarily in the Asia-Pacific region. He joins ChemConnect from GE Specialty Chemicals, where he served as commercial director and managed the restructuring of major distribution channels and introduced Web-enabled marketing.
Brian combines excellent core business skills, extensive management and logistics experience with a clear understanding of the advantages of e-commerce brings to the chemical industry, particularly in the Asian market, said John Robinson, CEO of ChemConnect. Prior to his arrival at ChemConnect, Shelby spent eight years in various GE divisions. He served as director at GE Plastics Pacific, where he led the direct and indirect purchases of all ten GE Plastics Pacific production operations. But Shelby began his career as a corporate attorney, serving as director of the International Division for Zigman Joseph Stephenson, providing global business, marketing, and consulting services.
Shelby holds a BA in History from the University of Chicago, and a JD from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law.
