Kohl's Corp. partnership with Amazon is paying off since launching its pilot program to accept Amazon returns in some stores in October.

According to data analyzed by Gordon Haskett Research Advisors, a participating Chicago Kohl's store saw an 8.5 increase in foot traffic. The study also found that around 56 percent of those who returned Amazon goods to a Kohl's location were new shoppers.

The data found that stores that offered returns had more customers spend time in it. The data was obtained by tracking customer traffic via cell-phone data.

Kohl's decided to partner with Amazon to bring customers to its stores. The retailer also sells Amazon products such as the Echo.
