Kansas City, Mo.—July 19, 2012—Third party logistics (3PL) service provider Wagner Industries Inc. changes it company name to Wagner Logistics Inc. and promoted Brian Smith as Chief Executive Officer (who will retain his current Chief Operating Officer title).
“We want to provide a new level of service for our customers,” said Smith. “As CEO, I’ll be able to focus on the strategic direction the company will need to take and work with our customers to make sure we’re providing exactly what they need to solve their logistics challenges.”
Founded as Wagner Cartage Service, the company is in its 66th year in business and changed its name in 1979 to Wagner Industries.
“The name change is the result of our evolving business model and describes exactly what we do for our customers,” said John Wagner Jr., who will remain president and retain an ownership position in the company. We want the new name to be crystal clear about who we are as a company. We want companies looking for solutions to their logistics challenges to know exactly where they can find a great partner and resource.”
Smith joined Wagner in 2005 and served in a variety of management positions including director of industrial engineering and vice president of operations.
“Brian led the way in our name change and our strategic planning efforts,” Wagner confirmed. “He’s a great leader and I look forward to continuing to partner with him and all of our associates to better serve our customers.”
The company also debuted a new Website at www.wagnerlogistics.com which will serve as the home for John Wagner’s Supply Chain blog, offering insight and analysis of the latest issues affecting the logistics community.
