Daimler is joining forces with associations, organizations and competitors in a number of initiatives to gain a more sustainable raw material supply chain, Automotive World reports. The company is aiming to gain certifiable standards, safe origins and transparency in the procurement of high-risk raw materials and an improvement in working and living conditions of people locally.

Joining the new initiative is another step for Daimler as it increases their impact in the sustainable supply chain. According to Automotive World, the focus of the initiative is on gaining materials like cobalt, steel and aluminum.

It is crucial for Daimler to continue to join initiatives so that it can contribute to long-term improvements for anyone that is affected. The company is currently a part of the Human Rights Respect System and has a role of developing a holistic approach to respecting human rights in both its company and along the supply chain. Through that initiative, the company has identified around 50 potentially high-risk raw materials and is working to make high-risk supply chains transparent.

Automotive World reports that Daimler has joined four initiatives that take a product's entire life cycle into account.  These initiatives help the company pursue goals and determine how to implement them.
