New ValenciaportPCS.net system integrates with GT Nexus portal services for access, standardized electronic transactions with over 20 shipping lines
Valencia, SPAIN, and Alameda, CA — March 4 2005 — GT Nexus announced today that the Port Authority of Valencia, Spain, has gone live with the GTN Portal to provide integrated electronic shipment transaction services for Spain's shippers, agents and freight forwarders.
GT Nexus has integrated with the Port's new digital platform for e-commerce, ValenciaportPCS.net, which is a technology project undertaken by the Port to provide logistics service companies with new tools and online processes to streamline transactions with shipping lines, with a goal of better service for their clients.
According to Rafael Aznar, chairman of the Port Authority, industry platforms such as GT Nexus have brought improvement to the maritime sector by integrating the shipping companies' information systems, unifying the communication and information flows between shipping companies and their clients.
"These platforms play important roles for ports as well, allowing forwarders to communicate more effectively with a large number of shipping companies for planning, chartering and goods tracking purposes," said Mr. Aznar. "This has improved the efficiency of document flows, standardised procedures, reduced the errors involved in manual processing and increased the availability of the shipping companies' services."
The Port Authority of Valencia joins the Port of Antwerp, Belgium, as a port IT system integrated with the GTN Portal, which is an industry-backed, multi-carrier transaction platform for seafreight management. The integration will provide ValenciaportPCS.net users with access to multiple shipping lines through one platform and automated processing of business transactions, including:
Bookings: Allows forwarders and shippers (demanders of maritime transport) to make requests of the shipping lines (suppliers of maritime transport) for reservations of space on container cargo ships.
Shipping Instructions: Enables forwarders and shippers (demanders of maritime transport) to provide the shipping lines (suppliers of maritime transport) with information about the goods and items to be transported, enabling efficient generation of the bill of lading and preparation of the manifest.
Track & Trace: Allows forwarders and shippers (demanders of maritime transport) to obtain information on the status of their shipments (current situation of the cargo, trans-shipments made, documents processed).
