Agribusiness to get a better flavor for its business performance

Westmont, IL — January 13, 2004 — Boise, Idaho-based J.R. Simplot Co., a privately held agribusiness corporation, has licensed the Silvon Stratum suite of enterprise performance management (EPM) applications.

"We required a solution that would help us improve our sales management and communication process while also helping us better manage inventory across all of our locations," said Paul Saras, vice president of Business Integration for the J. R. Simplot Company Food Group.

Saras explained that his company is looking to Stratum's statistics-based demand forecasting capabilities to yield more accurate sales and operations plans. In addition, the company selected the applications to provide standardized analytics to all of J.R. Simplot's users so the company can proactively monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and respond to variances in inventory and other business areas as they occur.

"Stratum's strong focus on operational performance management was an important factor in our decision, and the food industry references that Silvon provided further validated our selection in the areas of product performance, return-on-investment and customer service," Saras concluded.

Simplot said it would run the Stratum Sales Performance Management and Inventory Performance Management applications on top of a data repository consisting of sales, open order, inventory and other operational information extracted from the company's legacy business systems.

"Today, successful food industry businesses need to incorporate more than just financial analytics into their enterprise performance management initiatives," said Michael J. Hennel, president and CEO of Silvon Software. "Operational analytics have become a much more critical component for improving performance and decreasing variability in key business processes."
