Pleasanton, CA — February 23, 2004 — ScottishPower, an international energy company based in the United Kingdom, has deployed an enterprise content management (ECM) platform from Documentum to create, manage and archive technical manuals and drawings related to its U.K. power stations.

ScottishPower serves more than five million electricity and gas customers in the United Kingdom and the western United States. The UK Generation Division manages the group's generation capacity in the British Isles, which includes thermal coal-fired power stations, combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) stations, hydro-electric schemes, pumped storage generation and substantial wind capacity.

The Generation business' large-scale assets stretch from the Scottish highlands to the south of England. The business needed to maintain control over its varied content assets, such as technical manuals, reports and plant drawings.

Using the Documentum ECM platform, ScottishPower's Generation Division will provide online access to enterprise content, with the goal of enabling its field and operational engineers to be more efficient in maintaining plant operations. The deployment of Documentum also supports ScottishPower's health and safety regulations.

"We've rolled out the Documentum ECM platform to cover all of our plants, and are pleased with the results," said Paul Perry, quality manager at ScottishPower. "Documentum offers the speed, ease of use and scalability that meet our requirements."

"Regulatory compliance is a major driver for companies across all industries," said Dave DeWalt, president of the Documentum software division of EMC. "In deploying the Documentum ECM platform, ScottishPower will accelerate completion of engineering and maintenance projects and reduce operating expenses."

In addition to ScottishPower, Documentum has more than 50 customers in the utility sector, including American Electric, Boston Edison, Electricite de France and Florida Power Corp.
