Book retailer selects SeeBeyond for multi-year initiatives to enable a business-oriented architecture in face of global growth

Monrovia, CA — October 18, 2004 — Book retailer Borders Group has signed a multi-year agreement with SeeBeyond to enable a business-oriented architecture to support key integration projects across the organization in face of global growth, the solution provider announced today..

Headquartered in Ann Arbor, Mich., $3.7 billion Borders employs approximately 32,000 people worldwide, including at some 1,150 Borders and Waldenbooks stores throughout the United States. The company also operates 36 Books etc. stores located throughout Great Britain, and it recently acquired Paperchase Products, a stationery retailer with 65 U.K. locations.

Borders continues to extend its brand on a global basis. As such, it has identified a need for a unified infrastructure to support the connectivity of systems, both new and legacy, across the organization.

Through the selection of the SeeBeyond Integrated Composite Application Network (SeeBeyond ICAN 5) Suite, Borders will be able to support the connectivity of its applications and the orchestration of its business processes on an aggressive timeline with low risk to ongoing business operations, SeeBeyond said in announcing the deal.

"We see the benefits of deploying a business process-driven integration solution and are looking forward to achieving results from the SeeBeyond ICAN 5 Suite," said Keith Watkins, vice president of technical services for Borders. "Leveraging the ICAN suite can significantly reduce our development time and simplify our integration efforts."

Borders will initially deploy SeeBeyond's eGate Integrator platform, along with eInsight Business Process Manager to enable a business process-driven solution based on a service-oriented architecture. The first stage of the deployment is expected to begin in spring 2005.
