Certification of supply chain management company by WBDC, WBENC comes as corporations emphasizing supplier diversity

Chicago, IL — October 20, 2004 — The Women's Business Development Center (WBDC) and The Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) has certified suburban Chicago-based DSC Logistics, a logistics and supply chain management company, as a women's business enterprise (WBE).

The WBE certification indicates a company is 51 percent or more owned, operated and controlled by a female. Most Fortune 500 companies, as well as federal, state, county and other municipal agencies, have diversity commitments and goals, or are working to diversify their supplier base by identifying opportunities to do business with women owned companies.

Ann Drake, chief executive officer, DSC Logistics, noted that many companies and governmental agencies have supplier diversity programs that facilitate increased opportunities for businesses owned by women and minorities, and these programs generally require certification from a group such as WBENC to provide independent confirmation that these businesses are in fact owned, operated and controlled by a woman.

"We have seen an increasing trend with our existing and prospective customers emphasizing supplier diversity and the value of doing business with women business owners, so we felt the timing was right to obtain certification," Drake said.

Privately held DSC Logistics, founded in 1960 as Dry Storage Corporation, offers services that include supply chain analysis and design, strategic solutions-based consulting, business process integration, process improvement and management of logistics operations, such as warehousing, transportation, packaging and fulfillment.
