Steel supplier turns to service provider to support transport of materials to plants, customers
Chicago — October 22, 2004 — Steel supplier Republic Engineered Products has named USF Logistics as its new logistics provider, providing transportation and logistics services to all of Republic's plants and its customers.
With headquarters in Fairlawn, Ohio, privately owned Republic Engineered Products is North America's leading supplier of special bar quality (SBQ) steel, a highly engineered product used in the automotive and industrial equipment sectors. Employing about 2,300 people, the company operates facilities in Ohio, New York, Indiana and Ontario.
"This is an important step to improve the transport of materials among our plants and to our customers," said Joseph F. Lapinsky, Republic's president and CEO. "Since our steelmaking, rolling and finishing processes are not in-line, we must maximize the efficiency of our transportation activities, and this contract will help us do that."
Chicago-based USF is a $2.3 billion provider of services that include high-value next-day, regional and national LTL transportation, forward and reverse logistics, and premium regional and national truckload transportation.
"USF Logistics is well positioned to support Republic in structuring a supply chain focused on the timely, efficient movement of material in a very dynamic market," saod Thomas Lilly, president and CEO of USF Logistics. "Providing our customers a competitive edge in their business creates real value, and a relationship based on mutual benefit."
USF serves the North American market, including the United States, Canada and Mexico, as well as the U.S. territories of Puerto Rico and Guam.
