American businesses and consumers paid $175 billion in tariffs on U.S. imports from March to October 2025 alone, according to comprehensive national and state-by-state data released by We Pay the Tariffs.
"The October tariff data shows unprecedented costs for American businesses and consumers, and the full scope of impacts becomes clearer with each month's data release," says Dan Anthony, executive director of We Pay the Tariffs. "The administration clearly understands tariffs are hurting affordability. Otherwise, why delay new Section 301 tariffs on China and Nicaragua and postpone furniture tariff hikes until after the 2026 midterm elections? They should go a step further and remove the existing tariffs driving these historic cost increases. Small businesses simply can’t afford to keep paying these crushing taxes."
Key takeaways:
· In the month of October 2025 alone, tariff collections reached a record high, with $31 billion collected on $275 billion in imports, compared to just $6.8 billion in October 2024.
· Of the $31 billion collected, $28 billion (90%) resulted from presidential actions.
