Oct. 8, 2015—The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) announced an initiative on Wednesday that will sharply expand its supply chain management program, an action that comes as companies say hiring qualified professionals in the field is increasingly difficult.
The university, which has been giving a free online supply chain program for the past year, will offer micro-master’s certificates to students who complete five courses in the program and score well on an exam. The certificate can then count for a full semester worth of MIT credits toward a full master’s degree in supply chain management.
The certificate and degree track comes as many companies say they are having greater difficulty finding people with the right skills to manage increasingly complex global and technology-driven supply chains, and are hoping that new training programs will help cultivate future management.
