iSource Publisher Acquired by Cygnus Business Media

New management offers broad range of opportunities for iSource magazine and business partners

Birmingham, ALJune 3, 2002We are pleased to announce today that Vulcan Publications, the publishers of iSource Business, have been acquired by Westport, Conn.-based Cygnus Business Media, a business-to-business media company. In addition to iSource, the acquisition includes Vulcan Publications' construction and industrial magazines, related Web sites and advertising card decks, adding half a million targeted professionals to its customer base.

Vulcan's publications align directly with several markets within the current Cygnus portfolio and provide our advertisers with expanded and diversified marketing opportunities, says Cygnus President and CEO Paul Mackler. Cygnus media properties facilitate an ongoing exchange of information and ideas within each market we serve and provide our advertisers with greater access to their customers through integrated marketing solutions.

The acquisition includes eight leading publications including Construction Site News, Electrical Contracting & Engineering News, Fabricating & Metalworking, Heavy Equipment News, Industrial Machinery Digest, iSource, Plant Safety & Maintenance and Transportation Equipment News, providing Cygnus Publishing with over 300,000 new subscribers.

Cygnus already has a strong market presence within the construction and industrial marketplace, says Douglas G. Moore, Vulcan's chairman/CEO. Companies serving these markets will benefit from the broader range of marketing opportunities available as a result of the combined resources of Vulcan's and Cygnus' media properties.  This is a real win-win for our customers and employees.

The online assets of the acquisition also hold significant opportunities for marketers. These include NDX.com, an established manufacturing web portal, concretepaving.com, a website for the concrete and asphalt marketplace, Heavyequipmentnews.com and iSourceonline.com. Each publication also has a companion site for online communication.

The Alabama-based Vulcan acquisition will establish a third major publishing operation for Cygnus, joining our Melville, New York and Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin locations, says Cygnus Publishing President Rich Reiff.  Not only will we be acquiring quality publications, Web sites and advertising decks, he notes, we will be retaining talented and exceptional people who will continue to serve our customers."
