Minneapolis September 6, 2002 Major Mexican convenience and grocery store operator FEMSA is set to use a solution from Retek to manage its operations and supply chain for its nearly 2,000 outlets as the company seeks to continue its expansion.
Operating more than 1,800 OXXO convenience stores and 40-plus large format grocery stores throughout Mexico, FEMSA is also the largest beverage company in Latin America as measured by sales, with consolidated revenues of $5.4 billion in 2001.
Following a detailed evaluation process, FEMSA selected Retek in a competitive evaluation due to its depth of convenience store and grocery functionality and expertise, according to the solution provider. FEMSA selected Retek 10 solutions for merchandising operations management, supply chain management and advanced retail planning and optimization.
"FEMSA's retail division is expanding very rapidly, with plans to continue that growth for the foreseeable future," said Rafael Lamadrid Barragan, chief information officer with FEMSA. "Retek provides a proven, scalable solution, which will enable FEMSA to profitably expand our retail operations."
Lamadrid Barragan added that FEMSA is looking to the solution to help improve sales and margin, and to optimize inventory positions through improved data integrity and more efficient operations.
Founded in 1890, FEMSA is headquartered in Monterrey, Mexico.
