Automating Reverse Logistics

Supply-Chain Services aims to give clients visibility into reverse supply chain

Pittsburgh October 14, 2002 Supply-Chain Services (SSI) is set to use a Web-based returns management solution from software provider ReturnCentral in a move to automate the reverse logistics process and give its customers greater visibility into their supply chains.

Reverse supply chain management (RSCM) enables companies to control the processes involved in moving returned products and information backward through the entire supply chain. Founded in 1966, Chicago-based SSI was established under the parent company System Service International, a third-party logistics (3PL) company, to offer a range of reverse supply chain services, such as national/regional product return management, repair/refurbishment and recalls and warranty services.

SSI will use ReturnCentral's ReturnMatrix, a Web-based solution featuring rules-based authorization, transportation management, disposition optimization and advanced reporting capabilities, as well as systems integration.

"Our clients have grown to know SSI by a strong commitment to customer service," said Mike Lund, vice president of sales for Supply-Chain Services. "By offering our customers a Web-based returns solution, we further enhance our position in the market by providing automated reverse logistics services whereby our clients have increased visibility into their supply chains."

ReturnCentral hosts its Web-based application and connects to all SSI internal systems as well as third-party transportation companies via XML and API integration. SSI customers will have authenticated, secure access via the Internet to authorize returns, automate shipping and track the returned items through any of SSI's internal processes.
