Atlanta February 18, 2003 Logistics solutions specialist Logility has branched out into sourcing with the debut of its Voyager Global Sourcing Management solution, promising to help companies reduce supply chain costs by optimizing sourcing decisions and providing visibility into offshore production.
Logility is targeting the offering at brand owners, either retailers or manufacturers of private label and branded merchandise. The suite includes tools for managing requests for proposals (RFPs), monitoring suppliers' production and quality, tracking supplier shipments, and designing and managing a company's supply chain.
"Brand owners are really looking for the freedom to source and manufacture anywhere in the world to gain a competitive advantage without compromising quality or product availability," said Mike Edenfield, Logility's president and CEO.
Larry Lapide, vice president of supply chain services at technology consultancy AMR Research, writing in a February 7 research note, noted that the new offering extends the functionality of Logility's current supply chain suite. "The extended suite now has functionality to support brand owners as they plan, source and track globally sourced products, from quotes and bids to the planning, receipt, and eventual customer delivery of products," Lapide wrote.
Components in the Voyager Global Sourcing Management solution include Value Chain Designer, intended to provide visibility into supply chain networks by allowing companies to analyze capital expenditure plans, assess risk strategies and optimize global network operations to clearly evaluate strategic sourcing options.
The Global Sourcing tool automates the sourcing process, from proposal management and product specification package delivery to supplier bid analysis, selection and performance management via the Internet, while Production Visibility uses collaborative time and action calendars to monitor supplier production and quality, track milestone deliverables and provide exception-based management of global sourcing initiatives.
The Supplier Logistics component provides advanced ship notice (ASN) functionality and tracks supplier shipments from global manufacturing locations to provide greater visibility of inbound logistics and product availability.
Voyager Global Sourcing Management is available now.
