BMC Software to sell EMC's ControlCenter Software; EMC acquires rights to BMC's PATROL Storage Manager
Hopkinton, MA, and Houston — July 2, 2003 — Building on their goal to deliver storage management capabilities to enterprise storage customers, storage management software provider EMC Corp. and enterprise management software provider BMC Software Inc. today announced a global technology partnership.
As the basis of this partnership, the companies said EMC has acquired rights to BMC Software's PATROL Storage Manager software, and BMC Software will resell EMC's ControlCenter family of products as its exclusive storage resource management offering through its MarketZone program.
EMC and BMC Software asserted that they would provide investment protection for all customers currently using BMC Software's storage management software. EMC's said its focus on heterogeneous storage management would help to provide a smooth transition for all customers currently using PATROL Storage Manager. Both companies intend to integrate the EMC ControlCenter open storage management software with BMC Software's PATROL products.
In addition to the reseller agreement and the license of PATROL Storage Manager, EMC and BMC Software also agreed to the following:
- EMC will support BMC Software in providing maintenance service and support to all current PATROL Storage Manager customers
- BMC will be able to offer PATROL Storage Manager customers' equivalent EMC ControlCenter licenses in order to provide a migration or upgrade path from PATROL Storage Manager
- EMC and BMC Software have established cooperative marketing and technology initiatives
