Gary Ettinger, a Unilever executive, attended the presentation on robots at the Warehousing Education and Research Council (WERC) Conference Program at the Hyatt Regency Orlando. Chris Harbert, global sales director at Rethink Robotics, described the advantages of “collaborative” robots. Interviewed by Elliot Maras, managing editor of Food Logistics, Ettinger said he is concerned about the scarcity of labor to perform even simple tasks in the warehouse. He is looking at employing robots for kitting tasks. He felt the presentation addressed safety regulations and the ability to use robots along with employees in the warehouse.
