Pittsburgh, PA — June 16, 2006 — SmartOps Corp., a provider of enterprise-class supply chain optimization solutions, announced that its Multistage Inventory Planning & Optimization (MIPO) software solution will be implemented by The J.M. Smucker Co.

The J.M. Smucker Co., headquartered in Orrville, Ohio, was founded in 1897 when the Company's namesake and founder sold his first product — apple butter — from the back of a horse-drawn wagon. Today, over a century later, the Company is the market leader in fruit spreads, peanut butter, shortening and oils, ice cream toppings, and health and natural foods beverages in North America under such icon brands as Smucker's, Jif and Crisco. The J.M. Smucker Co. has over 3,500 employees worldwide and distributes products in more than 45 countries.

A company with Smucker's long, rich tradition of brand leadership and excellence understands the benefits of effective supply chain management, said Sridhar Tayur, CEO of SmartOps.

For Smuckers, the SmartOps MIPO will determine the inventory and product availability plans to meet or exceed service goals given inherent uncertainties, time-varying data, multi-location and inventory stage complexities, according to Tayur.

MIPO will also dynamically generate optimal inventory targets for each stage of the supply chain while providing visibility into each inventory requirement — including safety, cycle, pre-build, pipeline and merchandising stock requirements, by item or stock-keeping unit (SKU) — to meet desired service levels.
