DHL to handle HAZMAT requirements for shipments of specialty chemicals

Plantation, FL — January 28, 2005 — DHL, a global express delivery and logistics company, today announced it has been chosen by Acuity Specialty Products Inc. (ASP), a division of Acuity Brands, to handle all small package Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) requirements to customers nationwide.

As part of a two-year, multi-million dollar agreement, ASP will use DHL's ground delivery network and array of services to ship premium specialty products — including cleaners, deodorizers, disinfectants, herbicides and pesticides geared for the industrial, institutional and retail markets.

Prior to reaching the agreement with DHL, ASP used a combination of major transportation carriers and local courier services to manage transportation to customers from 31 distribution centers nationwide. ASP said it consolidated its delivery services to improve service and reliability at the driver level, achieve overall cost savings and maintain competitiveness.

The leading provider of specialty chemicals, ASP's products include major brands such as Zep, Enforcer and Selig, which DHL will deliver from ASP distribution centers nationwide to the company's industrial, institutional and retail customers. The agreement calls for DHL to transport via standard ground and regulated HAZMAT shipments.

"At the end of the day, our decision to select DHL as our exclusive provider for our premium specialty products came down to DHL's strength as a flexible carrier, willing to adapt to the very specific requirements posed by our broad product offering and customer base," said Ed Walczak, ASP Logistics vice president. "DHL went the extra mile by consulting with us and expertly managing the transition process to ensure that the specific shipping requirements of each of our distribution centers would be met."

DHL is working closely with ASP to customize a transportation program, with varied automation requirements, to serve the diverse product and shipment volume needs of each distribution facility. In addition, ASP's proprietary automation system will be integrated with DHL shipping systems at ASP distribution centers. By integrating technology across DHL and ASP platforms, ASP will maximize shipping efficiencies and will be able to perform all customer service functions in a paperless environment.

"DHL's expertise in creating tailor-made, supply chain solutions based on each individual customer's business is a hallmark of our service. We don't expect customers to fit into our systems, instead, we partner with customers to develop the most effective solution for their business," claimed Randy Clark, executive vice president of sales for DHL.
