Austin, TX — February 2, 2004 — The Regence Group, which comprises Blue Cross/Blue Shield affiliates in Oregon, Washington, Utah and Idaho, has selected Troux Technologies' IT management platform to provide a technology baseline for key company initiatives and address the IT challenges presented by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

HIPPA, passed in 1996, establishes standards and requirement for the electronic transmission of certain health information.

With the Troux platform, The Regence Group said it would collect IT data from many different sources and create a centralized repository for the information that will be used to ensure compliance with HIPAA and its impact on the key initiatives of information security, application portfolio management and change planning.

"After the pilot project, we are convinced that the complete visibility into our IT baseline created by the Troux platform will reduce our overall total costs of IT planning and management," said David MacLeod, director of Information Security for The Regence Group. "Troux is the first platform that we have seen that automatically generates an 'as is' view of our environment and tracks our infrastructure, enabling us to align IT with our business goals, such as HIPAA compliance."

Blue Cross and/or Blue Shield affiliates of The Regence Group provide health coverage for approximately 3 million subscribers. Complying with HIPAA to protect the privacy of their subscribers is of paramount importance.

"With the visibility provided by the Troux platform, The Regence Group can mitigate their risk of HIPAA compliance," said Jonas Lamis, director of Troux's Risk Management and Compliance practice. "Further, our technology will allow The Regence Group to track changes to data, plan for continuity in the event of a system outage and demonstrate that they have strict security standards in place to protect the privacy of their customers' records."

The Troux platform collects data about IT infrastructure from diverse sources, and, in a central repository, classifies the data aligning it with business objectives. Troux said the platform, combined with best practices and specific views offered by Troux Solutions, provides an information foundation for mitigating the risk of non-compliance with HIPAA.
