Farmington Hills, MI — May 13, 2004 — The Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) has awarded the global consulting and technology services company Covansys a contract to implement an electronic document management System (EDMS), designed to improve customer service for the agency's 61,681 annuitants, 326,087 active members and 715 participating employers.

Scheduled for full implementation later this summer, the EDMS is valued at nearly $1 million dollars and will be developed utilizing software from FileNET, a provider of enterprise content management (ECM) based in Costa Mesa, Calif.

"ASRS, like most retirement systems, was facing a significant increase in the demand for their services due to the retirement of the baby-boomer generation, who are extremely familiar with the Internet. The EDMS was the perfect solution," said Bryce Haws, senior vice president, Covansys Public Sector Practice. "Automation will allow ASRS to reduce its reliance on paper processes. Ultimately, this will free ASRS staff to focus their efforts where it really counts: improving customer service for their increasing membership."

In addition to improving customer service, Covansys said the EDMS will allow ASRS to handle a larger workload by providing increased departmental productivity, improved work processes, reduced administrative costs, quicker access to customer documents and information, and reduced work backlogs.

"Covansys understood our challenges and our objectives and developed a best practices solution to meet the specific needs of our organization," said Patrick O'Keefe, Network Information System manager, ASRS. "The EDMS is a competitive, cost effective solution that will allow us to increase departmental productivity while improving the level of service we provide to our membership."

Covansys said the system is a flexible foundation that will allow ASRS to meet its growing member's needs, and it will also integrate with ASRS' current technology infrastructure, including Oracle Forms and Avaya Enterprise Manager.

For the past 19 years, Covansys has provided public sector solutions to more than 47 states plus the Virgin Islands, District of Columbia and Guam in the areas of health and human services, public retirement, public health, motor vehicle services and unemployment insurance systems.
