Energy Services Group taps G-Log as foundation for new global logistics initiative
Shelton, CT — June 23, 2004 — Halliburton's Energy Services Group has selected a logistics and transportation solution from G-Log as the foundation for a new global logistics initiative.
The Energy Services Group offers an array of products, services and integrated solutions for oil and gas exploration, development and production. The group is set to use G-Log's Global Command and Control Center (GC3) software, a platform providing supply chain visibility and event management functionalities.
After rolling out the initial site, the company plans to use the G-Log-powered logistics platform to manage and optimize all shipments to and from its facilities and affiliates worldwide — across all modes and all geographies— within a single system.
This initiative appears to be in line with a larger trend identified by Jeff Woods, principal analyst of Gartner, who noted that, given the growing trend of globalization and extended supply chains, which, in turn, drives more complexity in logistics, companies need to consider a global approach to managing logistics to match, rather than only managing logistics by geography, by mode, or by individual business unit.
"By fusing business processes on a single platform that manages both orders and shipments across the global supply chain, companies can retire legacy systems and reduce the total cost of ownership," Woods said. "A fused platform also creates a single source of information for all partners on the logistics network to make better, collaborative decisions that enable companies to reduce inventory, lead times, and transportation costs."
G-Log said that while its platform allows companies to leverage the end-to-end visibility and supply chain event management (SCEM) functionalities, the GC3 software can also help to reduce inventory and cycle times, lower freight costs and improve service levels through better shipment planning and execution. GC3 will plan, execute and provide visibility and SCEM processes to keep goods in motion and optimize the flow of materials across a global logistics network, the solution provider said.
