San Jose, CA September 4, 2003 Business intelligence (BI) solutions provider Business Objects today announced that Rubio's Fresh Mexican Grill has deployed BusinessObjects Enterprise 6, the new version of its BI suite.

Rubio's said the suite provides performance data to executives at headquarters and to remote district managers, which span 143 restaurants in six states. Through WebIntelligence 6 they have access to Web-based financial and operational reports to assess the effectiveness of menu changes and the impact of various restaurant promotions.

And by detecting trends earlier, Rubio's managers in the accounting, finance, marketing and operations departments said they could make changes to improve customer satisfaction, sales and margins.

In the highly competitive restaurant industry, it is critical that companies control costs for food ingredients and labor while increasing sales. Business Objects said its Enterprise 6 suite allows executives to track and manage enterprise-wide business performance based on these metrics.

After deploying Enterprise 6, Rubio's said it is more closely monitoring and controlling the costs that impact the company's profitability. Rubio's manages menus, product mix and promotions to appeal to new patrons as well as regular guests.

"We upgraded to Enterprise 6 for a variety of reasons," said Melissa Houston, director of information technologies at Rubio's Fresh Mexican Grill. "First, we wanted to present executives and managers with a company-wide view of the performance of the business on a daily basis. To do this, we needed to eliminate static reports and offer Web access and drill down capabilities to our managers to facilitate better decisions."

In the past, Rubio's managers received reports with information on sales, purchasing and other operational performance data, but the reports were e-mailed with data based on the prior week's activity. With Enterprise 6, reports are now always available online and the data is updated periodically in Rubio's data warehouse. Also, Enterprise 6 allows Rubio's managers to view summary data and drill down if they have specific questions about an individual restaurant, Houston said.

Dave Kellogg, senior group vice president of worldwide marketing at Business Objects, said, "In the restaurant industry, the customer is king, and the ability to track key metrics related to customer preferences is paramount to success."
