Steel producer reduces process time, supplier costs

London and Sunnyvale, CA — November 22, 2004 — Steel producer said it has selected Ariba Sourcing to accelerate bottom-line savings and streamline its global e-sourcing processes.

Arcelor explained that it wants to give its global buyers the quickest and most efficient route to suppliers. Since using Ariba's solution, Arcelor has reduced by half the time it takes to run its strategic sourcing process while also achieving cost savings on purchased goods and services.

"Ariba Sourcing has already generated savings and efficiencies within our purchasing process," said Jose Luis Sanchez, director of Purchasing Strategy, Arcelor. "After early success on key sourcing events, we're keen to expand our commodity expertise and increase our e-sourcing activity on a global level."

Arcelor employs 98,000 workers in more than 60 countries, and it shipped 40.2 million tons of steel in 2003. Arcelor chose Ariba for its international presence and worldwide coverage, state of the art functionality and the local support and help-desk service it offers on a regional level.
