Finnish firm establishes RFID sales and technical support center in Chicago

Tampere, FINLAND — December 10, 2004 — UPM Rafsec, a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag manufacturer and member of UPM Group, said it has opened a new RFID sales and technical support center in the United States.

Located in Chicago, the support center will serve the North American market, including Canada and Mexico.

UPM Rafsec, which is headquartered in Tampere, Finland, said the American market is a strategic area of growth for its business. Following the mandates issued by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and such retail companies as Wal-Mart regarding mass adoption of RFID technology by their suppliers, UPM Rafsec said the demand for electronic product code (EPC)-compliant tags and RFID technology-related know-how is growing.
