GHG Emissions in Transportation Experienced Uptick

Agriculture emissions declined, transportation increased and manufacturing remains unchanged.

Global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for November 2025 totaled 4.98 billion tons CO₂e, a decrease of 0.04% vs. November 2024, according to the latest Climate TRACE data

Total global year-to-date emissions are 55.39 billion tons CO₂e, which is 0.50% higher than 2024's year-to-date total. Global methane emissions in November 2025 were 33.38 million tons CH₄, an increase of 0.05% vs. November 2024. 

Key takeaways:

 

·        Climate TRACE’s preliminary estimate of November 2025 emissions in China, the world’s top emitting country, is 1.42 billion tons CO₂e, a decline of 5.00 million tons of CO₂e, or 0.35% vs. November 2024.

·        Of the other Top 5 emitting countries, U.S. emissions increased by 5.21 million tons CO₂e, or 0.91% year over year.

·        Greenhouse gas emissions increased in November 2025 vs. November 2024 in transportation and waste, and decreased in agriculture and power. Power saw the greatest change in emissions year over year, with emissions decreasing by 0.49% as compared to November 2024.

·        Agriculture emissions were 597.08 million tons CO₂e, a 0.03% decrease vs. November 2024.

·        Manufacturing emissions were 850.00 million tons CO₂e, unchanged vs. November 2024.

·        Transportation emissions were 752.22 million tons CO₂e, a 0.46% increase vs. November 2024.

·        Waste emissions were 171.35 million tons CO₂e, a 0.48% increase vs. November 2024.

·        The urban areas with the highest total GHG emissions in November 2025 were New York, Los Angeles, and Houston, Texas.
