New tools offered to assist U.S. exporters and Canadian importers with customs clearance at border
Overland Park, KS — June 28, 2004 — Online heavy freight management specialist freightquote.com has rolled out an updated Web site with improved functionality for cross-border shipments through integration with A&A Contract Customs Brokers Ltd., headquartered in British Columbia.
By integrating with A&A, freightquote.com said it will offer a pre-arrival review system (PARS) that will allow its carriers to transmit shipment information to A&A Contract Customs Brokers Ltd. prior to the shipment's arrival at the Canadian border or point of clearance.
A&A will subsequently submit an electronic release to Canadian customs using information that the freightquote site captures during the scheduling process. Upon arrival, the driver provides a bar-coded document to customs.
Customs officials then match the load to the transmission from A&A. If customs has no questions and no need to examine the shipment, the goods are released immediately.
freightquote said that the upgraded features will allow its customers to automate the Canadian Customs Invoice (CCI) during the scheduling process, transmit required clearance information to A&A's brokerage staff, realize quicker movement of goods across the border, estimate applicable duties and taxes, and track and trace shipments through the border clearance process.
In addition, freightquote.com also said it has expanded current carrier relationships serving Canada and secured more aggressive pricing. Preliminary figures show a quick start to the provider's efforts to grow its business north of the border, with a doubling in the number of U.S.-to-Canada transactions completed online through the Web site in the first two days of testing.
