ChemPoint.com selects DHL for small package logistics
Plantation, FL — October 7, 2004 — Logistics company DHL today announced the details of an agreement with ChemPoint.com, a growing e-distributor for specialty and fine chemicals. Under the terms of the agreement, DHL said it will provide the small package warehousing and delivery needs for one of ChemPoint's premier product lines across North America. ChemPoint said it hopes that by integrating DHL's full-service capabilities into its processes it will be able to provide more shipping options and flexibility for its customer base.
DHL will manage the fulfillment and shipping operations for ChemPoint from DHL Logistics' facilities in Fresno, Calif. and Columbus, Ohio. Both Commerce Park facilities support ChemPoint's nationwide customer base — two business days to most customers via DHL's guaranteed ground service.
"Our small package provider selection was tied to a carrier's ability to provide convenient access to warehousing and distribution operations; have a strong U.S. transportation network; and leverage technology to serve our customers quickly, reliably and cost-efficiently," said Edward Lux, director of Technology and Operations for ChemPoint.
DHL Logistics developed a solution for ChemPoint that includes a dedicated customer service support group as well as integrated technology systems. ChemPoint said the new logistics arrangement provides better supply chain visibility and a streamlined process that minimizes redundancies, increases accuracy and ultimately improves the speed of delivery.
Mike Heilman, vice president and general manager of DHL Logistics, commented, "Customers like ChemPoint have learned that transportation and logistics is not a commodity service. With our new $1.2 billion investment in infrastructure in the United States, we are positioned to give customers a competitive edge."
