Provider says version 8.11 of S&OP tool aligns operational, financial plans to enable more rapid response to demand fluctuations
San Diego — October 25, 2004 — Enterprise software provider PeopleSoft has rolled out the latest version of its Sales and Operations Planning solution, adding capabilities designed to enable virtual collaboration between sales, manufacturing operations, engineering and finance to help manufacturers better plan for demand fluctuation, simulate the financial implications of supply chain decisions and more effectively manage business operations.
PeopleSoft said that its Sales and Operations Planning solution links transactional and financial data, enabling companies to make more informed supply chain decisions. The solution also embeds industry best practices, preconfigured key performance indicators (KPIs) and scenario-based planning tools that allow users to identify constraints and conflicts in plans, evaluate alternatives and prioritize responses, the solution provider said.
In addition, PeopleSoft said that the Sales and Operations Planning module leverages Dr. Eli Goldratt's Theory of Constraints principles of identifying and managing critical supply chain limitations. The solution was also designed with the help of Dr. Richard Ling, widely recognized as an expert on sales and operations planning.
Manufacturers today are under intense pressure to effectively manage the entire sales and operations planning process. A major challenge they face is that siloed operational data makes the supply chain planning process difficult to manage and imprecise. PeopleSoft said that the Sales and Operation Planning solution helps align an organization's supply, demand and financial plans, resulting in a holistic business view versus a departmental view.
As such, the solution can help companies to adapt and respond quickly to market changes using tools for scenario planning and decision support analysis; better anticipate customer demand by increasing visibility into supply chain operations; reduce inventories across different locations in the supply chain through constraint-based buffer management; and lower overall costs through better management of resources and alignment of business objectives with operational plans.
"The Achilles' heel of sales and operations planning has been the inability to integrate critical business information across sales, manufacturing operations, engineering and finance," said Les Wyatt, group vice president and general manager for PeopleSoft EnterpriseOne. "PeopleSoft Sales and Operations Planning breaks down information silos and provides a connected view of supply chain operations, enabling companies to better anticipate and respond to changing customer demand."
Ross Bradley, chief information officer at PeopleSoft customer Berri Ltd., said that the new module would assist his company in aligning its demand plans with production, supply, marketing and financial plans.
"The solution will provide additional support for our growth strategies focused on product innovation and geographic expansion," Bradley said. "We are already leveraging PeopleSoft Demand Consensus and Strategic Network Optimization products as a foundation for our sales and operations planning process. The new module will help us to become even more competitive and responsive to changing customer demands."
PeopleSoft Sales and Operations Planning will be generally available in December.
