Southborough, MA — November 29, 2004 — Campbell Soup Co. today said it has chosen Formation Systems' Optiva software for its product development infrastructure. Optiva will be used by more than 1,000 Campbell associates working at the company's Camden, NJ, headquarters, as well as at the Campbell's Canada, Campbell's Australia and Pepperidge Farm business units.

Formation Systems provides solutions for the food and beverage, specialty chemical and consumer packaged goods industries.

"Campbell's goal is to be the most innovative and agile company in its markets," said Joseph Spagnoletti, Campbell's vice president of information technology. "As our first truly global IT solution, Optiva enables us to bring products to market faster, while reducing risk and ensuring regulatory compliance. This investment is a significant update to our product development systems."

Optiva integrates product development from concept to launch for process manufacturers. The solution also provides collaborative formulation, packaging, labeling, sourcing and program management functionality. Manufacturers like Campbell Soup Co. are able to improve their product development productivity, comply with regulatory issues around the world, and more quickly introduce new products to market.

"[Product lifecycle management (PLM)] targets the things that CEOs, and ultimately investors, care about most — namely, growing cash flow with the expectation of more to come. Better (faster, cheaper, more precise) product innovation translates consistently into higher margins and market share," said Kevin O'Marah, vice president of research at AMR Research.

"Like many companies, Campbell is meeting the challenges of increasing competition and regulation by investing in their product development process and systems," said Trent Landreth, CEO of Formation Systems. "We are excited to partner with Campbell and provide a global platform for product development."
