Upgrades inventory optimization capabilities in version 6, also previews Web collaboration app
Las Vegas — October 13, 2003 — Smart Software has unveiled the latest version of its flagship SmartForecasts solution, adding upgraded inventory optimization capabilities to the software, which will ship this autumn.
In addition to introducing SmartForecasts Version 6, the software company, which specializes in enterprise demand forecasting, planning and inventory optimization solutions, also used last week's APICS conference here to preview SmartWeb Collaborator, a Web-based collaborative forecasting package that works with SmartForecasts.
Smart says that SmartForecasts Enterprise 6 will enable users to better manage data, accurately set inventory stocking levels and safety stocks, and view an expanded range of management reports.
Version 6 includes inventory planning tools to estimate stocking levels and safety stock requirements for all forecasted items, as well as additional management reports to assess the success of forecasting projects, including "forecasts versus actuals" analyses.
The solution offers collaborative forecasting options to save, modify and review multiple forecast scenarios for any group of items, as well as enhanced product group forecasting to improve both top-down and bottom-up results, Smart said.
An integrated comments facility allows users to attach notes and comments to any forecasted item, and the solution offers improved data management capabilities, including redesigned, configurable data tables that display data and audit information simultaneously.
Smart also says that the new version includes increased database functionality providing greater flexibility and easier connection to corporate data, as well as improved look-and-feel and online help facilities. In addition, the solution includes Smart Software's Intermittent Demand Forecasting technology, used to produce forecasts of service level inventory requirements for intermittently demanded products.
Smart Software says that its upcoming SmartWeb Collaborator solution will enable users of SmartForecasts Enterprise 6 to publish forecast results, graphs and reports via the Web and manage real-time, interactive feedback among planners. This process is intended to help foster consensus forecasting across a corporation. The collaboration software runs under standard Internet browsers such as Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator.
