Putting together IKEA furniture- a task that many don't look forward to and have given up on- has met its unlikely match, and it just happens to be a robot in Singapore.
Singapore has been advising businesses to start investing in automation to boost productivity and help monitor labor expenses.
Scientists at Nanyang Technological University spent three-years programming a robot made of arms, grippers, sensors and 3D cameras to assemble the frame of an IKEA dining chain in 20 minutes.
The scientists told Reuters that it is only a matter of time before robots can fully assemble furniture from a manual, verbal instruction or simply looking at a picture of the finished item.
